Do you read a lot on your Kindle? Are you open to trying books from new authors while getting deals on those from your favorites? If so, you’re going to want to know about Stuff Your Kindle Day.
What is Stuff Your Kindle Day?
Stuff Your Kindle Day is an event where you can download a ton of free books on your e-reader. It lasts for 20 hours, and while it started with romance novels, it’s expanded to various sponsors and all types of books.
Who is Stuff Your Kindle Day For?
Stuff Your Kindle Day is for reading nerds like myself. If you’re basically a book hoarder and will give reading just about anything a try, this event probably is for you.
When is Stuff Your Kindle Day?
OK, you want in, right? Or you at least want to shop this event, so when is it?
Oct. 22 – This event is hosted by Romance Book Lovers, so a lot of the offerings will be romance e-books, but there will still be plenty of other stuff.
Oct. 24 – It’s a big freakin’ deal to have these events this close together. This one is hosted by Cozy Mystery Book Club, so it will offer lots of cozy mystery e-books.
Nov. 15 – Hosted by Alpharoll, this event will offer romance books featuring “cinnamon roll main male characters.” You know, melt worthy guys who bring you breakfast in bed?
There is supposed to be one more Stuff Your Kindle event this winter, but the date hasn’t been announced yet. Dark Mode Books is hosting it, offering dark romance, dark fantasy, and horror ebooks. Keep an eye on their site to learn more.
Put all the dates on your calendar so you don’t forget them.
Each Stuff Your Kindle event is only 24 hours, so you’ve got to get it while the gettin’ is good.
Where Are the Stuff Your Kindle Events?
Now, here’s what I think is the most interesting part. Stuff Your Kindle Day events don’t just happen on Kindle. It’s essentially for any e-reader platform.
So, if you use Kobo, Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, or Google Play, you can stuff those readers too! All you need is the app associated with the e-reader you want to download onto.
Why Do Book Groups Host These Events?
Don’t ask me silly questions. You know why.
But seriously, Amazon started this program in 2007. Yes, I realize how badly I’ve failed you by not learning about it until last year. The idea was to get more people reading on their devices. Other book companies followed suit.
Why I Think You Should Stuff Your Kindle
You know I’m a big supporter of libraries, local bookstores, and authors, so why would I encourage you to download books for free? It’s simple. This event allows you to try books from authors you might not have heard of or read before. If you like what you read, you’ll likely seek out more of their favorite titles. In my mind, that’s a win for everyone involved.
How Do You Stuff Your Kindle?
All you have to do to Stuff Your Kindle is log on to the e-reader store of your choice on the dates listed above and see what books are free. Then, you download them like you normally would.
How Many Books Can You Get?
So, here’s a question I had almost immediately. How many books can I download? Because, you know, I want to download anything and everything that I think I’m even remotely interested in. You don’t read 200 books a year without having lots of options.
I have Kindle Unlimited, which usually only allows you to download 20 free books at a time. But the limits don’t apply during these special events! You can download as many free books as you want.
Preparing for Stuff Your Kindle Day
Since I’m spilling the tea (Do people still say that?), I’ll let you in on another secret. Ok, it’s probably not a secret. Everyone but me probably already knew this, just like they all knew about this event before I did…
You can shop in advance! No, you can’t download books in advance. That’s only for 24 hours. But some of the host sites have lists of books that will be free. They’re separated by genre and e-reader type.
You can try to make a list of what you want to go after, but I found the whole thing a bit chaotic. in the past, I just clicked and added things until I got tired and needed to work.
Happy Reading!
I think that’s all you need to know about Stuff Your Kindle Day. I hope you love this event and that you find a book (or many) to read and love.
As always, happy reading!
