Hi, I’m Kenna Griffin!
I’m a writer, editor, and educator with more than two decades of professional experience.
I currently work full-time as the content director for a content marketing agency that focuses on mental health marketing.
I’m also the director of programming and engagement for a mental health start-up and a freelance writer and editor.
Before working in marketing, I was a full-time mass communications professor and college media adviser. I still teach as an adjunct professor.
Prior to becoming an educator, I worked in journalism as a reporter and managing editor.
I have a Ph.D. in journalism with an expertise in mental health, specifically trauma, from the University of Oklahoma. I am the author of the book “The Viewing Room: Journalists as Witnesses to Executions.”
I live with my husband, Jeff, in Oklahoma. We have two adult children, three dogs, and an adorably spoiled grand pup.
When I’m not working, I am probably in the pool or reading. I read 200 books a year and am a self-described “word nerd.”
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love writing. Even before I knew how to spell, I remember showing my mom the “letters” I would create. They were more like squiggly lines, but I still was proud of writing, just like I am today.
I’ve written everything from a tweet to a book and love writing in nearly every format. My favorite subjects to write about are mental health and wellness, although I’ve written about seemingly everything imaginable — from sex addiction to estate planning and developmental zoning.
As a journalist, I prided myself on never being afraid to tell any story or ask any question. I still have that same natural curiosity today.
I take a lot of pride in my professional relationships and the fact that I typically freelance for the same businesses for years.
