“Solving problems is what leaders do,” Colin Powell.
It seems like leadership without problems is impossible, according to Gen. Colin Powell.
If you’re not up to your eyeballs in problems to be solved, you should be concerned, Powell wrote in his book, It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership.
Not having problems to solve means either your followers don’t trust you to solve them or they don’t think you care enough to do so, Powell wrote. Either option speaks negatively of your leadership abilities and your team’s respect for you.
I’m going to try to remember this quote the next time I feel like everyone is bringing me their problems. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I’m going to step back and reflect on what it means that they trust me enough to come to me for help. I encourage you to do the same.
