The most popular post I wrote in 2013 has continued surprising me every time I review this site’s stats. I adore the post, not necessarily because of its contents or even because of the traffic it has generated (although that’s fabulous). I love the post because it proves that this site is doing exactly what I set out for it to do.
I launched Prof KRG seven years ago to help my students and those like them. It initially was meant for student journalists, but has broadened over time to address mass communication-related topics for media students and professors. Its current mission is to “to create an ongoing educational dialogue among media professionals, students and educators.”
My most popular post of 2013 does exactly this.
I wrote How to Write a Professional Bio to assist with a class lab. My public relations writing students were going to write their professional bios and I knew they would need some help. Apparently they weren’t the only ones. The post has been the most visited on this site every month since I posted it last January.
There is nothing exceptional about the writing of the post and I don’t know any SEO trick that resulted in this traffic.
The reason for the post’s success is simple—it helps people.
The majority of the traffic for this post comes from search. People are looking for information about writing their professional bios, and I’m helping teach them how to do it.
I love understanding the context of this post’s popularity because it is so directly tied to my professional purpose and the goals of this site.
Thank you for seeking knowledge through this blog. I hope I’ve been able to provide it and can continue to do so.
Happy New Year!
