My Favorite Book of July

It’s not too often that I only have one favorite book in any month. It’s probably even more rare that my favorite book of July is a book I tried to read previously and dropped. Yet, it’s the situation I find myself in.

My Favorite Book of July

I read 15 books in July, making it a pretty active reading month. No, I’m still not the lady I follow on TikTok who reads 30-something books a month, but let’s not talk about her. I’m beginning to think she might be messing with us a little bit.

Of those 15 books, I gave one a perfect grade. Here’s my review.

Daisy Jones & The Six

I don’t necessarily want to be one of those people who latches onto the author everyone loves at a given time, reading and loving everything they write, yet here we are. 

I’d tried to read Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid a while back and just didn’t like it. But now there’s an Amazon show out, and with so many people still talking about how much they loved the book, I thought I should give it a try.

I listened to it this time, and I absolutely loved it. I enjoyed it so much that I’m going to buy a copy for my husband to read. I think he’ll love it too. Let’s just not tell him that the author is like everyone woman’s favorite.

Daisy Jones & The Six is about a fictional ‘70s rock band. The story is told through the band’s members through what’s meant to seem like interviews with the author. 

The story revolves around Daisy Jones, who is basically the coolest girl ever with an unusual voice to boot, and The Six, a rock band led by Billy Dunne. Together, they rise to become one of the most iconic bands of the time. But, the dynamics between the band members, the drugs, the fame, and the conflicts all lead to an inevitable fall. You know, your normal rock ‘n’ roll stuff.

If you read the book, I’d love to know what band came to mind as you were reading. I certainly had one in my mind the whole time, but I don’t want to put it out here and ruin it for anyone else.

You may also remember that I loved Taylor’s book, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which I gave a perfect grade and reviewed in May.

I haven’t loved everything I’ve read of hers, but these two books were amazing. So maybe I’m only partially on the bandwagon.
