May was a busy month in our lives. Our son graduated from high school, which meant lots of celebration and prep for a big graduation party. Our daughter also returned home from college for the summer. Despite having a lot going on, I still read eight books in May. But I only gave a single book a perfect grade.
My Favorite Book of May 2022
I gave a bunch of books Bs and Cs in May, which probably is why (along with being busy) I didn’t read more. My reading slows down drastically when I’m invested just enough in a book to finish it, but not enough to really care about what happens. It’s a slog. But that didn’t happen with my favorite book.
Reminders of Him
Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover was my favorite book of May. I read the book on Kindle Unlimited, where you can read and listen to it for free. I did both. I have a theory that listening to a book makes me less likely to give it a perfect grade, but that didn’t happen here.
One thing that was super strange for me about this book is that the main character’s name is Kenna. When you have a unique name like mine, you don’t see it around too often. I’ve never read a book with a Kenna character before. It was a bit shocking each time the Audible narrator used the name.
A name is all the Kenna character and I share. She was just released from jail for killing her boyfriend. After her release, Kenna returned to Scottie’s hometown to reunite with her 4-year-old daughter, who his parents got custody of because she was in jail. Of course, the first person she bumps into (and falls in love with) is Scotti’s best friend, Ledger, who she’d never met. Ledger is a constant in Kenna’s daughter’s life. Now both of them have some decisions to make as Scottie’s parents grapple with their grief and how to do right by their granddaughter.
Hoover’s books are touch a go for me. Like most people, I loved Verity. I also loved November 9 and Layla. But I didn’t like Never Never, and I dropped several of her books that were straight love stories. I guess I prefer a little mystery or drama built-in.
Happy Reading!
There it is, my favorite book of May. Have you read it? If not, take a look! And as always, happy reading!
