Book Review: Have a Nice Guilt Trip

January 13, 2015 by Kenna Griffin

I wish Lisa Scottoline was my mother, and not just because she’s a best-selling author.

Lisa ScottolineNo offense, Mom, but who wouldn’t want a loud, proud, Italian mother who could always make them laugh?

If Lisa was my mom, I guess that would make me  Francesca Serritella. That doesn’t seem half bad either, considering the smart, independent, successful writer she is.

The mother/daughter writing duo seriously cracks me up. I loved their book, Meet Me at Emotional Baggage Claim. It’s follow-up, Have a Nice Guilt Trip also was fabulous.

Both books are filled with short stories about 20-something Francesca’s life in New York City, Lisa’s midlife in the suburbs and Mother Mary (Lisa’s mother) being, well… Mother Mary.

The stories are funny takes on real life mixed with the occasional heart-felt admissions. Both women are wonderful storytellers. The books make me feel want to hang out with the authors, laughing and eating eggplant parmesan.
