Book Review: The Lies We Told #150Books

January 3, 2014 by Kenna Griffin

Maya and Rebecca Ward are about as opposite as sisters can be.

Maya is a quiet, reserved, rule-following pediatrician who longs to have a child with her physician husband, Adam.

Diana ChamberlainRebecca is a brazen, ambitious, thrill-seeking physician for a disaster relief agency who can’t settle down with any man, even the one proposing marriage.

What they have in common other than being physicians is that they both blame themselves for their parents’ murders when they were teenagers.

When Rebecca and Adam go to work with the relief group after a hurricane hits North Carolina, they realize there are many children who need to be treated and no one who specializes in pediatrics. Adam urges a frightened Maya to join the group, and she does so to make him happy.

The Lies We Told by Diane Chamberlain is the story of how the family changes during the relief efforts and how those changes cause them to reveal parts of their pasts they had never shared.

The book was a page turner and kept me up late reading. I couldn’t wait to see how it ended. I was not disappointed by the final twist.

I have read several of Chamberlain’s novels in the past and plan to add more them to my future reading lists.
