8 Things I’ll Need to Survive the Fall ’17 Semester

September 19, 2017 by Kenna Griffin

Football started and my husband put mums on the front porch, signifying it’s time for fall around here.

As we progress through the new semester, I’ve identified this year’s list of 8 Things I’ll Need to Survive the Fall Semester. Here they are, in no particular order:

fall survival

1. iPhone

My iPhone has made this list every year. I don’t go anywhere without it. It’s my portable life. Yes, I realize this is potentially a problem, but I don’t plan to do a single thing about it. I need my iPhone to survive.

2. Library app

I tend not to go to the physical library, but I use Overdrive to check out ebooks and audiobooks from our local library. I spend nearly two hours a day commuting and at least an hour a day reading, so you can see how this app plays a critical role in my life.

3. Coffee

Why am I already so tired? Seriously, it’s only the fifth week of classes. I love my coffee and must have two cups every morning to function. This will not change this semester.

FYI, if you’re curious, I drink Pike Place from Starbucks.

4. White Barn candles

I love curling up under a soft blanket and reading or watching TV. I’m pretty much always burning a White Barn candle when I do that. I love that they aren’t too expensive and have scents for every season. Of course, I’m burning pumpkin and cider spices right now.

5. Google calendar

I am enjoying having another driver in the family this semester. My 16-year-old daughter is responsible for driving herself and her brother to school and home from practices, freeing up a lot of my time for other things. But I still have to know who needs to be where and when, so my color-coded calendar that syncs across devices is a life saver.

6. “Bullet journal”

I put quotes around the words “bullet journal” because mine really is just a to do list in a fancy journal. I basically adopted the “bullet journal concept” about a year ago by going back to planning each day of my week on paper with pretty pens. It’s working well for me, so I’m going to keep doing it.

7. Comfy shoes

I never thought I would get this old. My footwear used to be all about fashion, but not necessarily function. My days are just too long now. I need to wear something that I can stand and move around in all day.

8. Eye cream

Full disclosure: I am a Rodan + Fields consultant. I want to make that clear up front before I tell you how much I love my eye cream.

Again, when did I get this old? I often wake up with puffy eyes. Thank the Lord for my Rodan + Fields eye cream. I apply it after my shower and my eyes look perfect by the time I leave my house. No puffy eyes or dark circles here! I could not live without this little miracle jar, especially at conferences when I’m super tired.

I’m sure there are many other things I will use religiously throughout this semester, but this list is a pretty good indicator of where I am now. What about you? I’d love to see your list.

What do you need to survive the fall semester?
