I can’t remember what grade I was in, but I clearly remember how my teacher helped us learn the difference between desert and dessert. She said:
“You want two helpings of dessert, but you don’t want two helpings of sand in your mouth.”
I’ve always remembered that desserts (the yummy chocolate and ice cream kind) has two “s”s. Because you want two helpings.
Desert has one s. You wouldn’t want to helpings of desert.
Is that helpful? I sure hope so!
Now go forth and use words correctly!
