The Distinguished Speakers Series at Oklahoma City University will feature journalist Bill Moyers at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center at N.W. 27th Street and Florida Avenue.
The presentation, which is free to the public, is titled “The Truth of Your Life.” Moyers will talk about his career as an award-winning journalist for public television and producer of several documentaries. He will also discuss issues affecting journalism and public media.
Moyers will have an afternoon conversation with journalism students, beginning at 4 p.m. Oct. 26 in Petree Recital Hall in Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center at Oklahoma City University. All student journalists are welcome to attend and should identify themselves at the door as members of the student press for special seating.
Moyers is working on a new series called “Moyers & Company” for American Public Television. The show features interviews with experts on topics ranging from politics to religion.
Moyers is considered one of the most prolific public broadcast figures in the industry. Born in Oklahoma in 1934, he began his journalism career at age 16 as a cub reporter on the Marshall News Messenger, served as press secretary to Lyndon Johnson and went on to establish Public Affairs Television in 1986. He has won more than 30 Emmy Awards in his career that has spanned more than 40 years.
