Wow! Last week’s #EditorTherapy chat was hopping!
Michael Giusti, an instructor and student media adviser at Loyola University in New Orleans, joined us to discuss enforcing deadlines. Michael advises The Maroon student newspaper; The Wolf, the student-run magazine; The Maroon Minute, the morning video newscast, and The Maroon Online, the student-run news website.
I knew Michael would be a great guest because I’ve heard him present on enforcing deadlines before. The gist of his presentation is to communicate clearly and often about deadlines and expectations, then don’t accept excuses. My favorite tip Michael provides is to call (not text) reporters as soon as they’ve missed their deadlines and ask them when you will have the story (not where the story is). This gives editors the direct answer they need, instead of an excuse.
Below is an overview of the full Aug. 16 #EditorTherapy chat with Michael as our guest.
Thank you to those of you who attended the chat and again to Michael for being our guest.
I hope to see you during the next #EditorTherapy!
