Planning may not be a subject that’s exciting to most people, but a failure to plan means your staff will just coast through the year and probably not accomplish much beyond what’s absolutely necessary.
My guess is that most of you are part of student media because you want to make a difference at your school, while building your own credentials.
When we talk about planning, I ask our editorial board “What do you want your editorial board to be remembered for?” The question helps the editors hone in on what’s really important for them to accomplish during their tenure.
Whether you’re trying to create your ed board’s legacy or you just don’t want to fail, planning is a must. I wrote in a summary about how to create an annual plan in The New Editor’s Guide to Setting Goals in 6 Easy Steps. We also discussed the Annual Planning process during the Aug. 9 #EditorTherapy chat. Below is an overview of that discussion.
Thank you to those of you who attended the chat.
I hope to see you during the next #EditorTherapy!
