I’m just a month in, but I’m right on track to reach my reading goal for the year.
You may remember that I challenged myself to read 150 books in 2014.
This challenge came after I read 108 books during 2013, beating my goal by eight books.
I loved my first reading challenge because it helped me make time to read, a hobby I love. I’m a huge proponent of the benefits of reading every day.
My first reading challenge also helped me become more intentional about making time to read.
But my first reading challenge wasn’t too difficult to accomplish. Once I got my reading routine set, it seemed simple to read so much.
This year’s challenge is a bit more… challenging. I cannot accomplish my goal if I get behind. Lagging even for a month will make it extremely difficult to catch up.
There was nothing really exceptional about reading 14 books in January, other than I actually was able to do it without reading becoming a stressor. Probably the most noteworthy thing about January’s reading was that I had a difficult time finding something I enjoyed reading. I actually quit reading three books that month. You may remember that I think life is too short to read bad books, so I put down anything I don’t like. In the end, I read 14 books that I really enjoyed. My favorites were May We Be Forgiven and No One You Know.
I hope you all will consider joining me in my reading challenge or at least vow to make reading a priority in 2014.
Happy Reading!

Fourteen books is so impressive!!!!
My goal for the year is to match last year’s total – 26 paper books read and 14 audiobooks. I’ve already read 8 paper books and 2 audiobooks! I’m so proud of myself!!!!
Some of my favorites so far this year have been “Cuckoo’s Calling,” the mystery JK Rowling wrote under a pseudonym, and a classic old-school sci fi book that I’d never read before “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”!
