December always is a big reading month for me because I have time off from work, my husband is binge watching football (read: trying to watch every game that’s televised), and the weather is perfect for curling up with a book, blanket and a cup of tea.
Despite reading 12 books in December, I only gave one new read a perfect grade.
Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig addresses a myriad of issues facing today’s teens, with a murder mystery or two entwined in the plot.
The book is about Flynn, a teenage boy whose girlfriend, January, is missing. As January’s boyfriend, Flynn is the prime suspect.
But, as Flynn begins to learn more about his girlfriend, he realizes there was a lot he didn’t know about January. In the process of learning about January, he becomes more honest about himself too.
Roehrig’s plot is unique and interesting. Of course, now that I connected with Roehrig himself on Twitter, I realize why. Even his tweets are unique and interesting! And he was nice enough not to point out that my first review of his book contained a sentence that didn’t even make sense. What a stand up guy!
Last Seen Leaving is worth adding to your reading pile, especially if you, like me, crave unique plot lines.
As always, happy reading!
