I would have thought you’d lost your mind if you had told me 10 years ago that I still would write on this blog every day. Yet, here I am celebrating the 10th year of Prof KRG.
Yes, this site is celebrating its birthday. I launched it 10 years ago while attending the annual National College Media Convention in St. Louis. I arrived today for the same conference in Atlanta.
A session Joe Gisondi presented at the St. Louis conference all those years ago inspired me to launch the original version of this blog. Joe’s talk about blogging inspired me so much that I started Prof KRG that night from my hotel room. My idea at the time was to help my students and those like them. The blog initially was meant for student journalists, but has broadened over time to address mass communication-related topics for media students and professors.
Prof KRG’s current mission still is to serve as a practical resource for student journalists. A connected goal is to create an ongoing educational dialogue among media professionals, students and educators. Between this site and the Prof KRG social media pages, it’s happening.
I’ll admit that I’ve though about quitting this blog many times through the years. It takes a lot of time to feed a site daily, and to promote all of that content and engage with all of you. This site also is a labor of love. I don’t make any money off of it, which probably is more my fault than anything. I never really intended it for that purpose, so I never tried seriously to monetize it. Instead, it takes time and money.
Along with having an expensive hobby, I’ve broken the internet at least twice while teaching myself rudimentary code. Don’t even get me started on how many times I’ve lost all of the site’s contents.
But each time I think of quitting, it’s you that keeps me going. Four college media educators approached me in the past week to tell me how much they appreciate this site and how they encourage their students to use it as a resource.
Your gratitude and appreciation really mean the world to me. That’s all I need to keep going another decade.
Thank you for your support and for reading. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can help you further.
Ten really is a win!

dustbury That’s amazing. Why?

profkrg Mostly that I’ve had some of the same readership for 15 of those years.
